Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science

The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science is located in the Main Campus of the Wroclaw University of Technology, near the Grunwaldzki Square, in Building C-11 at Janiszewskiego Street. The Institute Headquarters Offices are located on the 1st floor in Rooms 112, 114 and 116, including Chairman Office and the administrative resources. Offices of most faculty members and staff, as well as computer labs, library, lecture hall and seminar rooms are also located in Building C-11. Recently, new office rooms and laboratories were opened in Building D-1. On the 5th floor of Building C-11 its seat has also the Hugo Steinhaus Center.

Faculty of the Fundamental Problems of Technology

The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science is a part of the Faculty of the Fundamental Problems of Technology.


The Institute is entitled to confer the Ph.D. degree and the habilitation degree in Mathematical Sciences.

Dr Marcin Magdziarz wins a scholarship for young scientists

One of our young researchers, Dr Marcin Magdziarz has become a winner of the 9th competition for outstanding young scientists organized by weekly „Polityka”.

11 medals in XXIII International Championships in Mathematical and Logical Games

The Polish representatives have won 11 medals in the XXIII International Championships in Mathematical and Logical Games which took place in August 2009 in Paris. The Polish preliminaries had been organized by mathematicians from our Institute, dr Janusz Górniak and dr Rościsław Rabczuk.

Week of Mathematical Modelling ECMI

The Week of Mathematical Modelling ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry) took place at the Wrocław University of Technology on August 23-30. Students form many countries joined their efforts in applying mathematical modelling to solve problems arising in various branches of industry.

ESF Workshop „Mathematics and Industry”

A workshop of the WG1 group working in the framework of the FLMI project funded by ESF (European Science Foundation) was organized at the Wrocław University of Technology on August 28 at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science. People who represented the European industry as well as professors of applied mathematics from various countries tried to answer the question how to educate future mathematicians in Europe to meet industry's needs.

Week of Mathematical Modelling ECMI

At the EUNIS 2009 Congress in Santiago de Compostela, dr Jędrzej Wierzejewski and dr Przemysław Kajetanowicz from our Institute won the second prize in the competition „Jens Doerup E-Learning Award”.
